Sumir Karayi
GateAI co-founder Sumir Karayi, started his journey in the Himalayas, India. Sumir moved to the UK to complete his school and college education, earning a Master’s in Information Technology and a Batchelor’s in Engineering Electronics.
After gaining experience at Microsoft, RBS, BBC and Reuters, Sumir started 1E, an endpoint management specialist. Organically growing 1E and converting it into it a pure software business, Sumir stepped down as CEO after a majority sale to Carlyle. He retains significant ownership and a board seat at 1E.
Sumir is passionate about education providing a level playing field for women and underprivileged children. His foundation, Fair Chance supports fundamental research at Warwick and Delhi universities, and the NUEPA institute. With 1E, he has also supported a number of young adults over the last 17 years, providing educational support and pastoral care through local professionals.
Sumir has always embraced deep technical expertise to solve complex business challenges. Since the advent of AI, Sumir has been interested in using the technology across large organization. He believes generative AI is the perfect technology to augment humans but without focus on large enterprise needs and capabilities, it will fail to deliver the promised benefits. He co-founded GateAI to help his clients benefit immediately from this revolutionary technology.
Sumir also volunteers at several organizations. Notably, he is the Committee member and AI lead for Boardwave, an organization with 1000 European software CEOs. Over the last two years, he has also been the London and South East regional judge for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year award.
